Reymar Gacutan
Reymar Gacutan, an artist and educator residing in Quezon City, Philippines, currently holds a teaching position at the School for Design and Arts within De La Salle – College of St. Benilde. Gacutan embarked on his artistic journey in 1985 when he won a painting contest, leading to an invitation from the Department of Education to undergo a scholarship entrance exam at the Philippines High School for the Arts. Graduating in 1997 from the University of the Philippines, College of Fine Arts, with a degree in painting, Gacutan furthered his artistic skills by apprenticing under Mariano Madarang, an artist and former dean of PWU, and Zotter da Lavant, an Austrian artist. This apprenticeship provided him with knowledge in art restoration and conservation.
Following his academic pursuits, Gacutan initially worked as a CGI/3D animation artist at Imagineers, Toonworks, and Tooncity. However, he found little fulfillment in this field and decided to redirect his focus towards his true passion for art. Since then, Gacutan has actively participated in both solo and group exhibitions while concurrently sharing his knowledge as an educator in various schools across the Philippines.
